The Rose Ensemble presents The Last Queen of Hawaii Student Pricing

The information below comes from Peter Tuff, the Communications Associate at Rose Ensemble. This is a great opportunity to hear an incredible group of musicians and scholars – I highly recommend this. A poster for this event can be gotten by clicking here.

“At 8pm on October 9, 2015, at Ted Mann Concert Hall at the University of Minnesota’s School of Music, we will present one of our most talked-about programs of the last twenty years – The Last Queen of Hawaii – and your students can attend for only $10. There will be a pre-concert talk at 7pm by Founder and Artistic Director Jordan Sramek. A poster with the details is attached.

Nothing like a stereotype, The Last Queen of Hawaii is a celebration of traditional dance, storytelling and song, beginning with an ancient creation chant, highlighting Victorian parlor songs, missionary hymns and paniolo (“cowboy”) tunes, and ending with the imprisonment of the last Hawaiian Queen – Lili`uokalani, composer of the beloved and timeless “Aloha ‘Oe.” It’s a beautiful and captivating story from a period in American history of which many Americans seem to be unaware. The Ensemble presents this story with the virtuosic vocal artistry and scholarly approach for which it has been internationally recognized.

I would be so pleased and honored if you would inform your students about this concert, perhaps by announcing it, and/or printing and posting the attached poster in a place where your students can see it. We hope that many students will take advantage of our special $10 tickets all year long—we have a full season (our 20th) of soul-stirring and scholarly concerts in the Twin Cities for their inspiration, education and enjoyment.

Thank you for your time and interest. Please visit RoseEnsemble.org for information about the Ensemble and this concert. Tickets may be purchased from Ted Mann’s box office by calling 612.624.2345 or online at tickets.umn.edu.”
