MCTC Vocal Ensemble to perform with Cantus

The Minneapolis Community and Technical College Vocal Ensemble has been invited to join the award winning vocal ensemble Cantus as part of Cantus’ 2015-2016 season. The Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Pauly will be featured on the upcoming concert Would You Harbor Me? – a concert centered around themes of crisis, homelessness, resilience, isolation, belonging and community.

Cantus, a nine-voice full-time professional ensemble, began as a student led organization at St. Olaf College in 1995 and transitioned into a professional ensemble in 1999. They have been described as “the premier men’s vocal ensemble in the United States” (Fanfare Magazine). In 2009 they won the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence from Chorus America, and have performed with such notable organizations as The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Boston Pops. Cantus is one of only two professional classical all-male vocal ensembles in the United States, and the only professional vocal ensemble led entirely by its members.

“It is an incredible honor for the Vocal Ensemble to have the opportunity to sing with Cantus.” says their director, Liz Pauly. “They are fantastic musicians and incredibly creative in their approach to choral music. We are all very excited to be working with them.”

The concert, Would You Harbor Me?, will be on Thursday, April 7, 2016, 7:30 pm. The location will be Antonello Hall, MacPhail Center for Music – 501 S 2nd St in Minneapolis. Tickets can be purchased directly from the Cantus website [cantussings.org] or by calling 612.435.0055.

Solana (with Alex Richter) gets shout out in City Pages

Wow – we’re going to have to say “we knew him when”. Our own Alex Richter’s video “I Know, I Know” got a mention in City Pages’ “This Week’s Five Must See Minnesota Music Videos”.

To quote the article, “There isn’t much out there on the Drake-sounding mood-makers, but the mysterious group has been releasing a sequence of video that reveal, at the very least, that they have chops good enough that the particulars aren’t so important.” Amen to that – way to go Alex.

I Know, I Know
